Council is undertaking a full review of Timbertown to establish the parks viability. It is widely acknowledged that Timbertown is in need of major maintenance and capital improvements and it is with this in mind that Administrator Garry Payne has asked for this review to be immediately undertaken.
Over several years the annual Council subsidy to Timbertown has increased, with operating loss in 2008 of over $500,000. A report into Timbertown has identified that due to its aging buildings and infrastructure the park cannot continue operating under its current conditions.
Council is considering either significantly redeveloping the theme park or closing it. Redevelopment costs of the park have been estimated in excess of $15 million which would result in a significantly enhanced tourism facility with added attractions and an entry fee closer to standard market rates. See the libary for further details on estimate and issues.
The information gained from a random telephone survey of 600 residents, as well as community forums in Wauchope, Port Macquarie and Laurieton and this online discussion will help Council to determine the future of Timbertown.
