This consultation has concluded.
The draft Lake Cathie Coastline Management Study (2009) is currently on public exhibition until 7 October 2009.
The study, prepared by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and the Department of Environment and Climate Change identifies and assesses management options for how the coastline can be managed into the future.
Council’s Director of Development and Environmental Services, Matt Rogers said, “There is wide community interest in the study and we want to give the community opportunity to have their say".
A range of 13 management options have been identified by the draft Coastline Management Study, particularly for the area where residential properties front Illaroo Road at Lake Cathie. Some of those options include retreat, protection and adaptation scenarios along a stretch of coastline from the lake’s entrance to Middle Rock.
People making sumbissions and contributing to the discussion are encouraged to review the management options which are all summarised in the library documents and available on council's website www.pmhc.nsw.gov.au/lakecathie

If it were to become the preferred option for Council to purchase any homes at risk of coastal impact, as part of a voluntary purchase scheme, who should be responsible for funding these purchases? Potential funding sources could include Federal Government, NSW Government, local ratepayers or residents affected by coastal impacts through a local rate or special charge.

Council’s Coast and Estuary Committee have ranked the options using a triple bottom line approach (environmental, social and economic). All categories including impacts on local residents and the general public received an equal weighting in the assessment. Should there be a higher or lower weighting for the impact on local residents?
Higher - A relatively higher consideration of the impact on local residents compared to the broader community
Lower - A relatively lower consideration of the impact on local residents compared to the broader community
Equal consideration - Local residents and the broader community given equal consideration
